Tidewater Tech partners with Sumler Terrace to provide education to the Hampton Roads community through a $15,000 scholarship.

To support the local community and the increasing demand for skilled technicians, Tidewater Tech has created an annual scholarship of $15,000, which will be awarded to a resident of the Sumler Terrace community. The winner of the scholarship will be announced at Sumler Terrace, 720 Appomattox Street, on Friday, August 23rd, during the community connection event from 3:00 pm till 7:00 pm.
“We are honored and humbled to partner with TRG Management to afford a resident of their Sumler Terrace Apartment Community or the neighboring Berkeley Community the opportunity for training in one of our trades programs,” explains Paula Massey, Tidewater Tech’s Campus Executive Director. “This incredible opportunity changes the life of not just an individual but also their family by providing the recipient options they did not have prior; the skills the successful applicant will possess are theirs forever, and will possibly pave the way for more than one generation in their family.”
The scholarship submission process required individuals to meet Tidewater Tech’s admissions requirements, complete a Sumler Terrace application packet and turn in an essay. This individual will have the opportunity to train in one of Tidewater Tech’s training programs: building maintenance and repair, combination welding, automotive technician or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). In addition to the announcement of the scholarship winner, attendees of the community connection event will enjoy activities including games, face painting and music. Snacks available will include popcorn, cotton candy, hotdogs and snow cones. School supplies will be given away while supplies last. Parents must be present to partake in the giveaway.
